A Message from Our Team

Welcome to John Jay High School, East Fishkill. We, students of Dr. Birnbaum's AP Environmental Science Class will hold a tree planting event on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, to offset our schools carbon usage. We calculated a goal of 350 saplings by estimating the number of trees needed to offset 50% of our carbon usage based on the square footage and carbon emission rate of our school. Eastern Redbud, Red Maple, and Sweet Birch are the three sapling species available. We also hope that our event will foster a stronger sense of community, between our students, families, and everyone who works and lives in the Wappingers District. Community members can help by signing up to have a tree planted in their yard for $5. On the day of the event, our trained volunteers will plant trees in the yards of those who have requested them.

Sapling Information

Saplings will come as bareroot saplings. This means they are dormant until they are planted and typically bloom 4-6 weeks after being planted. Here is an example of what bareroot saplings look like.

For more information about the saplings and for resources about how to plant and care for them, visit the Tree-Plenish Resource page.
